H.B. Fuller | Kömmerling - A highly competent partner for active facades

The integration of various technologies into the individual glass elements requires a high degree of development and engineering competence. H.B. Fuller | Kömmerling has specialised in these requirements, and thus offers architects a wider scope for design and innovative solutions.

One of the company's core competencies is the insulating glass secondary sealing for structural glazing applications based on silicone solutions. With the Ködispace 4SG spacer, the manufacturer provides a warm-edge system that is unique in meeting the requirements of silicone-sealed insulating glazing. The warm-edge system ensures lasting energyefficiency and functionality even for demanding applications, such as cold-bended insulating glass elements used in facade or structural glazing projects.

The facade as power supplier

In addition to energy efficiency, energy generation is another important topic. Solar panels integrated into the facade already take over part of the power generation. One of the prerequisites for a solution with an aesthetic design is, among other technical requirements, a slim yet stable fastening. Instead of conventional constructions, like a fixing by clamps, the PV modules can be installed via back-rail bonding with SG silicone. H.B. Fuller | Kömmerling realised such a photovoltaic facade - based on a design by UNStudio - for the Züblin Building Z3 in Stuttgart.

At the end of the 19th century, building facades were used as advertising spaces with the help of luminous advertisements. Thanks to a liquid composite technology, the sensitive LED's of those media platforms can be embedded via lamination in between two glass panes and further proceeded to an IGU directly integrated into the facade as a constructional element.

The G-Smatt glass, developed by H.B. Fuller | Kömmerling and G-Smatt, is a multimedia display and a transparent building component.

Kömmerling has been part of the US adhesives group H.B. Fuller since October 2017. The acquisition of Kömmerling's parent company, Royal Adhesives & Sealants, also embraces the German locations in Pirmasens and Langelsheim. Together, the companies have grown into the world's largest provider of adhesives and sealants for insulating glass applications.
