ASB, short for Aluminium System Bau, was founded in 1965 by Horst Babinsky. Since the beginning, founder Babinsky was determined to innovate in the world of architecture. His personality, passion and enthusiasm for his dream inspired others, so it did not take much persuasion for six employees to embark on his journey with him. Although initially a small team, ASB soon became Germany's most successful licensee for the revolutionary system of aluminium prefabricated buildings. Babinsky's passion for innovation did not stop there. In 1975, he paved the way into the sports sector and developed the ASB SquashCourt. Within 10 years, ASB became the international market leader in squash court construction - and a history of groundbreaking innovations followed. Thanks to the years of experience and sound knowledge of materials, the company continued innovating under the reign of the founder's son, Christof Babinsky. He kept on revolutionising the way sports are played by implementing innovative technology and, together, the two developed a flooring system called ASB GlassFloor. The company created two glass-based flooring products: ASB MultiSports and ASB LumiFlex.
ASB MultiSports is the most advanced flooring system in the world. The certified product is the healthiest playing surface available; burned in ceramic dots provide the best slip resistance, without the risk of injury thanks to its ideal elasticity, friction and grip. The use of LEDs allows game lines to be switched on and off individually within seconds, using a touchscreen. The flooring system is certified according to the European standards for indoor sports floors EN 14904 and DIN V18032/2, and is accredited by the FIBA, IHF and WSF. It requires little maintenance and is resistant to wear and tear, with a lifetime expectancy of more than 50 years. The latest installation, a roughly 1,500m² sports flooring surface for St George's College Weybridge, beautifully complements the new building and allows students to take their game to the next level.
ASB LumiFlex is a floor that turns into a huge monitor, opening up entirely new possibilities for sports venues, such as additional advertising opportunities. This model features plug and play technology, allowing clients to be as creative as they would like and display any form of content they would like - the only limit being their imagination. LumiFlex is a multiuse floor which can be used for a wide range of applications, from sports to retail, from event to exhibition - LumiFlex makes your project stand out. And with ASB AR, LumiFlex even enables coaches to create completely new training concepts for their athletes. Spectators benefit from live data being displayed right on the floor, while sponsors benefit from the advertising perks the video floor offers. The floor's characteristics of ideal elasticity, grip and low maintenance qualify it for major events of any kind.
The potential installation spectrum for ASB's multifunctional flooring systems is almost unlimited, as Christof explains. "Whether sports venues, hotels, clubs, large-scale outdoor events, groundbreaking new buildings or innovations by architects and designers - with our glass floors, you make your project unique." With installations such as the digital lake and waterfall at Microsoft HQ in Dublin, ASB has proved its innovation spirit really is deeply embedded in its DNA.
